Current Astrology: Sagittarius, Jupiter and Current Transits

by Barry Kerr, evolutionary astrologer

The Sun moved into Sagittarius on November 21. sagittarius

Jupiter rules the sign of Sagittarius. As a reflection of our inner dynamics, Jupiter represents the part of us that knows, albeit subconsciously, that we are really spiritual beings having human experiences. Even without religious or spiritual training, we each have this inner wisdom, and from the moment we are born into these constricting physical bodies, with all the illusions of separation and limits, our Jupiter energy remembers being whole and infinite, and thus begins the subliminal longing to bring that awareness to consciousness.

As children, this gets expressed as the joy of exploration, adventure and the fearless and risky behaviors that are oblivious to death. As we grow, this expression continues as interests in travel, philosophy, expanding perspectives and looking for new opportunities to grow our sense of self and self-expression. With the difficult blows that come our way in life, our inner Jupiter begins to seek understanding, context and meaning. Thus religion, spirituality and metaphysics begin to resonate. All of these are ways we attempt to see past the illusions of this world, seeking truth and reconnection to the reality of our spiritual identity.

Jupiter’s rulership of Sagittarius is an easy one to understand. Sagittarius is the part of the journey through the zodiac in which our ego, after having been through the death threatening crucible of Scorpio vulnerability and intimacy, now comes out the other side, reborn, ready to live a new day, in a new way, more conscious of being a servant to a higher soul-self. This is the emotional and psychological alchemy that inspires our inner Jupiter to grow past our ego’s limited and childlike view and begin to ask adult questions about reality and our place in it. Sagittarius invites that exploration and fuels the path of the truth seeker. If I can survive death, what does that mean? What now shall I do? In finding the answers to these questions and more, our journey gives our life deeper meaning and brings us closer to discovering a higher sense of earthly purpose. In Capricorn, the next sign, our inner Saturn, now aligned with our soul’s divine intentions, will help us give definition, structure and impact to that purpose.

Of course, if our ego has not reaped the rewards of spiritual transformation and consciousness in it’s challenging Scorpio experiences, then Jupiter’s natural longing for truth remains clouded by the dense illusions of separation created by the limited five senses of our human form. Our ego still thinks and acts primarily from fear and is drawn to the truths, the philosophies, and the religious doctrines that resonate with that fear. Our sense of worldly purpose will then of course flow out of that limited perspective and meaning. Capricorn and Saturn, waiting on the horizon, will deliver us tough love through lessons of accountability, consequences, and discipline, thus providing karmic fuel for our next journey through the cycle.

Current Transits

The New Moon is on November 29. new-moon-nov-2016

This Sun-Moon coupling squares off with a Neptune-South Node conjunction, thus beckoning us to ask the big questions about what reality we believe we live in and how that informs our shadow work. Neptune was retrograde from mid-July to November 21, which had the effect of channeling idealism into delusions and denial. Now that Neptune has gone direct, we are rudely awakened.

Likewise, as Venus joins Pluto in its square with Uranus and Jupiter, the more particular focus is on our values and relationships. What values do we hold onto from the old paradigm of separation and how can we empower ourselves and others to live in the reality of oneness. How can we reach out with compassion and respect to others who differ with us and establish a common ground of unity without sacrificing our individual authenticity? Jupiter is in play here, expanding our willingness to be open to a larger truth and perspective. Neptune, in conjoining the South Node, is amplifying our compassion and forgiveness for those among us who have not yet reached disillusionment with the old and out-lived paradigms of truth. The demand for change is still strong (Uranus oppose Pluto), but this new moon invites us to inject a larger (Jupiter), heart-centered (Neptune) paradigm into the process.

The Full Moon is on December 13. full-moon-dec-2016

As Saturn conjoins with the Sun in Sagittarius, it brings perhaps harsh lessons for our beliefs and sense of truth. The opposing Moon in Gemini is tugging at our emotional need to communicate our thoughts and feelings, yet Saturn urges self-discipline and expanded awareness. Chiron in Pisces squares off with this Sun – Moon polarity, challenging us to infuse all our communications with the intention for healing, being aware that we all carry wounds that can be triggered by over-confident opinions and beliefs. Mars sits in a harmonious aspect to this full moon, allowing our warrior energies to lean into the Aquarian principles of brotherhood and mutual respect. While Jupiter continues to bring expansive truth and opportunity to the Uranus-Pluto struggle for transformative change, Mercury conjoins with Pluto in Capricorn to ground Saturn’s above-mentioned influences into effective and empowering thought and communication, if we choose.
