SCORPIO – Searching for Soul

by Barry Kerr, Evolutionary Astrologer scorpio

  • Dates:           October 21 – November 20
  • Ruled by:     Pluto (and Mars)
  • Element:      Water

Though true for everyone, the following information will feel more relevant to you if your sun, north node, Chiron and/or a group of other planets are in Scorpio on your birth chart.

What Is Scorpio’s Intention?

If last month Libra was inviting us into relationship awareness, this month our inner Pluto is drawing us deeper into the crucible of intimacy, feelings and change that relationship inevitably requires. Ouch! It’s Scorpio.

The Scorpio in us is driven to uncover the dark, hidden secrets in our self, others, and life. Thus, when we are in our watery, feeling Scorpio self, we can seem intense, hidden, and serious. We may be drawn to crisis situations and melodrama. Scorpio’s spiritual intention is to strengthen our trust in spirit, to know that death, in any form, is but a rebirth of something new: that we are, as souls, immortal. Where change is demanded, Scorpio is there.

Our healthy, conscious Scorpio is learning self-discipline and how to choose constructive change, releasing whatever causes stagnation and low energy, eliminating non-useful possessions, and enjoying things without the need to own them. In relationship, Scorpio is learning to open into the vulnerable intimacy of feelings, to accept support from others, embrace cooperation and merging of power. In the process, we become more aware of other people’s psychology (desires, needs, wants and motives) and learn how to blend our energy with theirs to meet our own needs.

Our unconscious Scorpio self becomes judgmental and impatient, overreacts intensively, and becomes preoccupied with other people’s motivations, taking things personally. Unenlightened Scorpio can be fearful of change and frightened by the unknown.

What needs healing and growth?

Our wounded Scorpio, doubting our immortality, fears death. Change always involves some form of death. Thus, we cling to things and people. Perceiving enemies who threaten to take them away, we use our power to manipulate or destroy, all the time putting on a face of light-hearted sarcasm. Though we are very sensitive to other people’s feelings, we keep ours hidden, afraid that vulnerability will be certain death.

To heal our Scorpio selves, we need to use our intense passion for truth to discover the mysterious secrets of life. Our wounds and losses will ultimately demonstrate that we never really lose anything, rather the essence of all we treasure remains with us, born into new forms and relationships. This journey requires that we embrace our feelings and be vulnerable with others, knowing our ego will be challenged, and though it may feel like death upon us, it is actually another part of our phoenix soul, birthing through the fire of transformation with fuller expression into this world of time and space. We then feel spirit, know our immortality and are happy to release people and things to live freely and playfully in this world of illusions, knowing we can never really lose their essence. Our Scorpio intensity turns to passionate delight in how spirit is hidden in the changes, deaths and re-births of this world.

What Can I Do This Month?

To heal and evolve your Scorpio self, pay attention to your feelings. Do you routinely honor and respect your own feelings and share them with trusted loved ones? Or stay hidden? How good are you at reading other people’s feelings? What do you do with that? Are you drawn to melodrama, in yourself or others? Jealous much? What’s behind that? Do you ask directly for what you need, or do you manipulate? Do you resist cooperation? Do you lash out when feeling threatened? Have you learned the difference between interdependence and co-dependence? Are you confident about your immortality? Can you enthusiastically embrace change?

LIBRA – Connecting To Others

by Barry Kerr, Evolutionary Astrologer libra

  • Dates:           September 21 – October 20
  • Ruled by:     Venus
  • Element:      Air

Though true for everyone, the following information will feel more relevant to you if your sun, north node, Chiron and/or a group of other planets are in Libra on your birth chart.

What Is Libra’s Intention?

Having spent the first half of the zodiac journey developing the ego “self”, our inner Venus now attracts opportunities to apply our self-knowledge to creating relationship. Come hither, Libra!

It is the Libra in us all that knows that the path to wholeness, in this world, is through relationship with others. The dance between two egos invites divine connection. Libra’s spiritual intention is to begin the softening of the boundaries that our ego has formed within the illusion of separateness that this physical world presents as reality. When we are ready for this, relationship and commitment is inviting and exciting. If our ego is holding tight to the illusion, we fear relationship as a threat to self-preservation, though the longing to engage still moves within us.

Through Libra, we are all learning to share, to see things through another’s eyes, to become aware of and support their needs and communicate our own with diplomacy and tact. When doing this well, we remain strongly grounded in our “self”, while also willing to cooperate and create win/win situations. When unconscious, we fear losing our self and become aggressive or defensive, pushing others away, or we fear aloneness and lose touch with our self, over-identify with another, compromise or capitulate altogether. This can lead to a debilitating co-dependence, or trying to always be “nice”, with an obsessive attachment to fairness and justice and a fear of conflict.

What needs healing and growth?

The wounded Libra in each of us feels alone or separate. We long for an “other” to “complete” us and bring balance to our lives. This can be experienced as a fear of being alone, acted out as described above. We may seek harmony around us in any way possible and put on masks of peace and contentment while feeling imbalance and conflict within.

To heal our Libra selves, we need to embrace that what we seek in others is already in our self. Their beauty is ours. Their lovingness is ours. Their darkness is ours. In this way, we reclaim pieces of our self that need acceptance, appreciation and love, and add to our sense of wholeness, completion and balance. Likewise, as we see ourselves in others, we see through the illusion of separateness. We see their soul reflecting our soul. Each time that happens, we come to know who we really are as spiritual beings, already whole and complete and always connected. In that self-knowing, there is no aloneness to fear.

What Can I Do This Month?

To heal and evolve your Libra self, give attention to how you are in relationships. Can you assert your boundaries even when it feels as though the other may reject you? Is your assertiveness and defensiveness impulsive or a conscious response to the other person? Are you truly curious about what’s going on in the other person? Do you look for win/win solutions? Are you open to learning about your self in situations of conflict? When you judge or praise others, can you see your self, too? Are you a pleaser, keeping a smile that covers your truth? Do your relationships support how you want to be in life?

VIRGO

by Barry Kerr, Evolutionary Astrologer

  • Dates:           August 21 – September 20
  • Ruled by:     Mercury
  • Element:      Earth

Though true for everyone, the following information will feel more relevant to you if your sun, north node, Chiron and/or a group of other planets are in Virgo on your birth chart.

What Is Virgo’s Intention?

In the grand scheme of things, what we are doing here, as spirit in human form, is learning how to be conscious co-creators in this time/space dimension we call the physical world. This requires that we pay attention to how this world works, practically, on every level. Hello, Virgo!

It is the Virgo in us all that focuses attention on the details in our experience. Virgo’s spiritual intention is to get it right, to create life to the highest orders of potential. Thus, when we are in our Virgo self, we might be fussy, particular, and critical, as we are sensitive to every thing that falls short of wholeness and perfection. The world is giving us feedback so we can improve our selves, our lives and to serve others by improving theirs.

In this process, our Mercury minds take in and analyze a cascade of information about how everything around us and inside of us works or doesn’t work. In affect, Virgo is our inner scientist, applying logic and cool-headed reasoning to our experiences and our relationships. When we do this well, we arrange our daily habits and lifestyles in earthy ways that maintain our health and wholeness, that ground us to the practical boundaries of life, and find useful service. When we do this poorly, we cut off feelings, suffer illnesses, create work and relationship problems, and/or lose spiritual perspective and connection.

What needs healing and growth?

The wounded Virgo in each of us feels incomplete, scattered, fragmented, disconnected and/or impure. Something is wrong physically, emotionally, mentally or spiritually and we need to “fix” or “get rid” of it. This can be experienced as physical illness, hyper-anxiety, over-analysis, obsessive worry, obsession with details, faultfinding, perfectionism, “being right” and inflexibility. There is a nagging sense of dissatisfaction that longs for wholeness and order.

To heal our Virgo selves, we need to learn to appreciate that though this world appears to our logical minds to be chaotic, fragmented and disconnected from order and spirit, it is actually always in perfect spiritual balance and harmony; and so are we. With this polar perspective (Pisces/Neptune), we can accept, love and serve ourselves, others and the world as they are, appreciating we are each on a unique journey back to conscious wholeness as co-creators. Our job is to pay attention and learn to co-create with more wisdom, faith, mastery and love.

What Can I Do This Month?

To heal and evolve your Virgo self, pay attention to how you participate with others. Do you act on your feelings of compassion? Serve others effectively? Or just judge and criticize? How much does your mind analyze and categorize, notice details, trying to make order out of disorder? This is what our minds are designed to do, but it needs balance with our heart and intuition. Is your mind helping you create healthy routines, or causing obsessive and harmful habits? Or do you rebel against routines and order because you are disappointed with the world? Are you living primarily in your head, a mental cloud of disconnect from feelings, or are you grounding into your body and to the earth, feeling your feelings, and taking care of yourself?

LEO – Souls Just Wanna Have Fu-un!

by Barry Kerr, Evolutionary Astrologer

  • Dates:           July 21 – August 20
  • Ruled by:     The Sun
  • Element:      Fire

Though true for everyone, the following information will feel more relevant to you if your sun, north node, Chiron and/or a group of other planets are in Leo on your birth chart.

What Is Leo’s Intention?

Having satisfied our need for love and belonging in the soul-babtismal waters of Cancer, we now turn ourselves outward with a radiant shine of pride and warmth, knowing we are a child of “God”, ready to share our “special” gifts with those around us. Oh what joy – it’s Leo.

Just as the Sun radiates warmth into our solar system, so our inner Sun shines our inspired individuality into the physical world through our ego/personality. It is by expressing our creativity, playfulness, passion and joy that we fulfill the ego’s limited sense of purpose in life. This is generally very different than our soul’s purpose in this lifetime, but is necessary for the soul to reach it’s goals. To lend our unique talents to the collective creation, we must first know how to actually manifest our own vision and talents.

When conscious in this expansion into Leo, we learn to strengthen our individuality, follow our heart’s desire, be willing to take center stage, increase our willpower, enthusiasm, and self-confidence. By being willing to take risks and look at life as a game, we learn how to have fun and relate to the childlike qualities in others.

Our unconscious Leo might insist on getting its own way, make changes just to show its power, become addicted to taking risks. We might demand others’ attention, create melodrama, or be overly prideful in the face of fear. At times, we might be overly concerned with what’s expected instead of following our own heart.

What needs healing and growth?

Our Leo ego, if wounded in youth, can feel that we cannot express our self, or that our creative expression has been squashed, our self worth damaged or missing. We can feel we are not a part of the celebration of life, we are not creative, talented, inspired enough or in any way special. Or we may not feel like we are given our due respect or adoration.

What Can I Do This Month?

To heal and evolve your Leo self, notice if you have a fear of being seen, recognized, put in the spotlight. Do you feel unworthy of notice, lacking talent or any gift to share? Conversely, do you find yourself trying too hard to be seen, applauded or loved? Do you steel attention at the same time you are feeling unworthy? Do you have a hard time accepting accolades, compliments or attention? Do you live primarily through others’ achievements? Perhaps your children’s.

Things to do

Give yourself permission to shine. Let go of standards, comparisons and judgments. Just follow your creative urges. Draw, sing, sculpt, craft, write, perform. Make having fun the priority, as if you were a child, without regard for outcomes. Play a sport. Compete in a game. Laugh and feel your inner child radiate joy and warmth to those around you. Take pride in your self.

CANCER – Gaining Emotional Intelligence

by Barry Kerr, Evolutionary Astrologer

  • Dates:           June 21 – July 20
  • Ruled by:     The Moon
  • Element:      Water

Though true for everyone, the following information will feel more relevant to you if your sun, north node, Chiron and/or a group of other planets are in Cancer on your birth chart.

What Is Cancer’s Spiritual Intention?

Through the first quarter of the zodiac, we establish and ground the individual self into the physical world and begin to turn our attention outward. We then notice others and our need to feel connection and belonging. Our inner Moon cries “Oh Cancer! – I need love”.

Our inner Moon is our emotional self. Feeling, knowing, and sharing our emotions all fall under the realm of the Moon and Cancer. Because our mother and family are typically our first opportunity to feel nurtured and loved, they are a prominent theme. It is in this stage of development, that we learn how to receive and give love, how to belong to a family and tribe. In a world that appears to be all about separation and survival, establishing a bond of loving care with others is primary to our ego’s ability to remain stable and navigate the challenges that life in the greater world will present. Maintaining healthy emotional bonds with family and tribe are essential survival tools in the physical world.

Learning to swim in the watery lake of emotions and feelings is paramount if we are to succeed in the much greater challenges to the ego that will play out down the road in the intimate and raging rivers of Scorpio and the confusing mysteries of oceanic Pisces. For our ego to eventually transcend the fears that worldly illusions create, we must have at least a taste of the unconditional love that originates from the universal, divine mother source. To whatever extent our earthly mother and family may have channeled such love to us, or not, Cancer and the Moon will repeatedly provide us opportunities to nurture our emotional security and wholeness until we know we are always loved.

When conscious, our Cancer notices and validates feelings, our own and others, without judgment and we feel empathetic, supportive and nurturing. From a foundation of emotional security, we can disclose our feelings and insecurities. We can stay centered in our feelings, not fleeing them, and be comfortable with others’ feelings. Our unconscious Cancer can be overly dependent, clingy, moody, insecure, fearful, stuck in the past, avoiding risks and controlling of others through emotional overreactions.

What needs healing and growth?

Our Cancer ego, if wounded in youth, might feel love was lost, was never given or will never be found. We might believe that the world is not a loving place and whatever love there is will not be given to us. This can lead to a feeling of emptiness, a tendency to sabotage relationships, withdraw when love is given, withdraw the love we give, reach for unattainable partners or overreach in trying to prove we are loveable. Often there is a preoccupation with memories, family and tribal history.

What Can I Do This Month?

To heal and evolve your Cancer self, pay attention to your emotions. Can you allow yourself to feel and share them? Do you even know what they are telling you? Or do you avoid them, stuff them, “postpone” them? Can you be present to “negative” emotional expression in others without rescuing or fixing? Do you feel unworthy of being loved or giving love? Is that guilt?

Things to do

Give yourself time to feel whatever you feel. Cry. Cry some more. Throw some pillows around if you feel angry. Scream out loud. Let whatever is there come to the surface, without need for analysis. Just let it be. Share some tender feelings with someone you trust. Notice other people’s emotions more and ask about them.

GEMINI – I Think, Therefore I Am?

by Barry Kerr, Evolutionary Astrologer

  • Dates:           May 20 – June 21
  • Ruled by:     Mercury
  • Element:      Air

Though true for everyone, the following information will feel more relevant to you if your sun, north node, Chiron and/or a group of other planets are in Gemini on your birth chart.

What Is Gemini’s Spiritual Intention?

After Taurus helps us ground our spirit into the physical world, and we build material stability and security, we are ready to look around, awaken our curious mind, and connect to our surroundings, including people. OMG, Gemini! – Where do I start!

Our inner Mercury, ruling Gemini, is our rational mind, designed to process information through our fives senses and “make sense” of our environment. Its instinctual function is to discern danger from opportunity. From this limited view, the world appears to be fractured; everything and everyone separate from everything else. Our lower human mind forgets that ultimately, all is divine oneness. So, within the illusion, it learns all it can, about whatever it can, categorizing data, good or bad, in order to better survive.

This is basic to Gemini, however Gemini’s spiritual intention is to become aware of the countless ways that spirit manifests through dualities, thoughts, forms, and relationships. In Gemini, we learn how to learn, think, and communicate. If conscious, we learn tact, logic, and objective listening. We seek facts and alternative perspectives, asking questions to learn how others think. Fully conscious, we strengthen our ability to make objective decisions and actions, communicate internal dichotomies, and use non-threatening approaches to expressing our ideas. When our minds can also integrate emotional awareness, we keep a positive outlook on life and people, delighted and fascinated with the diversity we see. This is prep for our own creativity.

Our unconscious Gemini will tend toward indecisiveness, waiting for more and more information, and trusting other’s perceptions before our own. We tend to gossip, guess what others are thinking, or say what others want to hear as misguided attempts to establish connection. Logic overrides our deeper, intuitive truths and we get stuck in our heads.

What needs healing and growth?

Our Gemini ego, if wounded in youth, can feel unable to communicate well with others, inept with words, or even unintelligent. There is a social uneasiness, not fitting in, or not perceiving the connections between things and people that others seem to see. We may feel uneducated, slow or stupid compared to others.

This can lead us to either worship and/or belittle those who we see as better in this way. We may hide our real talents in order to not be compared to others, and through self-deprecation, form alliances with others we perceive as safe. We may withdraw socially, living with our own internal dialogue.

What Can I Do This Month?

To heal and evolve your Gemini self, pay attention to your stream of thoughts. Where is your attention at any moment? Now where? And now? And so on. Are there patterns to this? This may be a clue to your unique form of intelligence and expression, different than others. Do you value your intuitive truth? Or do you cancel it out with logic? Notice who you admire or denigrate for their intellect or communicative expression. Do they mirror those aspects of yourself you have yet to acknowledge and embrace.

Things to do

Follow your curiosities. Read, write, and ask questions. Sign up for that class. Or teach it! Grow your communication skills. Communicate a deeply guarded emotion or intuitive truth to someone who will listen. See how well you listen to someone else do the same.

Let me know what you think of this blog. Or ask me a question.

TAURUS – Let’s Get Physical

 by Barry Kerr, Evolutionary Astrologer

  • Dates:           April 21 – May 20
  • Ruled by:     Venus
  • Element:      Earth

Though true for everyone, the following information will feel more relevant to you if your sun, north node, Chiron and/or a group of other planets are in Taurus on your birth chart.

What Is Taurus’s Intention?

Last month, fiery Aries renewed our impulse to assert our spirit into the world. Now, Taurus grounds that intention into the physical, starting with the denseness of our bodies, extending out to all the practical, physical resources we need, and reaching further to that which we want and desire. Thank you, Taurus – I needed that.

Our inner Venus, ruling Taurus, responds to our earthy existence, and based on our likes and dislikes, needs and wants, pleasures and displeasures, it forms our values. It is our values that give shape to our life. When we know and commit to our values, we can infuse our Martian vitality into the physical resources that Venus attracts to us, thus creating that which pleases us. Through planting, building, business, artistic expressions, and relationships, we increase our sense of abundance and physical security. Taurus’s spiritual intention is to build our commitment to the physical world, rewarding our limited senses with delightful expressions of how spirit can express sacred beauty and love into physical form.

In the Taurus part of our humanity, we learn loyalty, patience, gratitude, persistence, endurance, commitment, and forgiveness. If conscious, we grow our self-worth and self-resourcefulness. We take action slowly, deliberately, honoring others needs, but respecting their boundaries and our own. We feel awareness and gratitude for Mother Earth, value our bodies, and enjoy the pleasures of our five senses. Fully conscious, we realize that the physical is only a reflection of the spiritual, and our values evolve to the intangible qualities of spirit, which then guides us to infuse our physical creations with love and beauty.

Our unconscious Taurus, by leaning too much into self and insensitivity to others, can let our need for physical and emotional security turn into attachment and accumulation, jealousy and possessiveness. Our need for self-worth can turn into stubbornness and greed; our enjoyment of pleasure turn into excessiveness and addiction.

What needs healing and growth?

Our Taurus ego, if wounded in youth, can feel a lack our needs being met, or being unvalued by others, or not knowing our own values, or not being good enough, perhaps physically. This can result in a drive to prove our worth through accumulation of wealth or enhanced attractiveness. We can also have ongoing insecurities that wealth, relationships and pleasures can never fill.

As an alternative, we might deny our physical existence by attempting to extinguish our desires, living celibate, and repressing our natural creative talents and gifts by living out a severe and fixed routine. Or to the same end, we might devote ourselves to others, denying our own needs. These strategies continue the wound and lead to disappointment and resentment, deepening the experience of neglect and unworthiness.

What Can I Do This Month?

To heal and evolve your Taurus self, ask this: Do you know your own values, and are you willing to assert boundaries around yourself to help you uphold those values? Do you feel worthy of your needs and desires? Can you give yourself or ask for what you want without feeling selfish? When you feel stubborn, jealous, or possessive, can you sense your insecurities and create an inner security. What are your intangible values, and can you be flexible with how those show up in physical form.

Things to do: Build something. Plant something. Use your hands. Use your body. Enjoy sensuality. Plan your finances. Make and spend some money.

Let me know what you think. Or ask me a question.
